The Microsoft Windows Script Host (WSH) is an automation technology for Microsoft Windows that provides scripting abilities comparable to batch files, but with a wider range of supported features. It was originally called Windows Scripting Host, but was renamed for the second release.

How is wscript.exe loaded?

Shell open command - wscript.exe is typically associtated with identifier name of JSFile with and identifier of C:\Windows\System32\WScript.exe "%1" %*. A Shell Open Command allows for an association of a file extension and a program. This association allows an application to be run when the icon or a context menu item is clicked upon in the Windows Explorer window.
Scheduled task - wscript.exe is launched automatically by registering itself into the Windows Task Scheduler under the task name '\5007'. Task Scheduler provides the ability to schedule the launch of programs or scripts at pre-defined times or after specified time intervals or even with event-based triggers.
Startup files (user) run - wscript.exe is registered with the run identifier 'AdobePlugins' and the execution command 'wscript "C:\users\user\appdata\Roaming\Adobe\Plugins\invis.vbs" "C:\users\user\appdata\Roaming\Adobe\Plugins\bat.bat"' in the Windows registry HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Run keys are startup registry keys that are used to launch an application automatically when a user logs into Windows.
Startup files (user) run once - wscript.exe is registered with the run identifier '{EF93D902-3632-4AAE-A498-62A623106E06}' and the execution command 'wscript //b //Nologo "C:\DOCUME~1\user\LocalS~1\Temp\{EF93D902-3632-4AAE-A498-62A623106E06}.wsf" "/deletC:{E02AA760-44B7-4268-88C3-E77CB27928FB}.exe"' in the Windows registry HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce. RunOnce keys are used to launch a service or background process whenever a any PC user logs into Windows. Once the application is launched for the first time its entry will be removed from the Registry so it does not run again when a user logins again. Applications here are designed to be used primarily by Setup programs.
